‘A nail for his hat’!

| On a recent trip to Los Alamos in New Mexico I had time
to visit the Bradbury Science Museum. As some of you may know Los Alamos
is the home of the Manhatten Project, which produced the first nuclear
bomb between 1943 and 1945. During that visit I was browsing through
copies of memos and letters from the staff there and I came across the >A
nail for his hat memo= which
struck me as amusing and worthy of reproducing here. Due to the wonders of modern telecommunications and e-mail I have manage to obtain a copy of that memo. Special thanks to LANL library and to Garry Franklin of the Bradbury Science Museum for making it possible in such a short time. A copy of the Wheatsheet will be winging its way over to Los Alamos by courier on publication day.
