The Combatants, The Chequers versus North Springfield a.k.a "The
Wheatsheaf" |

The contest began and swiftly grew into a mixture of raw
muscle and bone combined with adroit skill and guile.
Justin caught the eye in his sleek black gloves as he repeatedly glided o=er the sward to repel the foe=s attacks. Dave >the Irish=, deputising for >Dave the Face=, contrasted well in white be smattered cotton gloves, for safer grip; thundering across the turf like some unbridled Juggernaut steered by a >left handed clerk of high principles but intemperate practices=. Enter Roxwell John and Matt, exerting a calming force on the restless troops, cunningly drawing the best from Shippey, Wayne, Paul =Ellis= and Mark.
|
| By half-time it became evident that this was
to be a close contest. Graeme, Lee, Colin and Tony took to the field to
replace flagging heroes. Repeated thrusts down the flank by the >Tank=
pierced and battered the Chequers=
armour. Mick and Colin were supplied with >ammo=
to inflict damage on the enemy. Paul=s
incursions caused panic in the opposition=s
ranks. Victory was in sight and eventually achieved. Thanks lads for a
great team performance, solid in defence and inventive in attack.
Final Score Chequers 2 Wheatsheaf 3.Zip did not score but was caught offside. Many thanks to Barry of the Chequers for making the arrangements and for providing >victuals= afterwards. Return fixture some time after Christmas.
