General Talk

This is the 7th and the biggest issue of the Wheatsheet. Many thanks to all the contributors who have all helped to make this, I hope the most successful yet.

A big thank you to Graeme for failing for the 7th time to produce the >Chicken article=. Maybe next time! I have had the pictures for over a year so I have included them anyway. Chickens are nice, I eat them all the time. I wonder how many are left?

It is ten months since the stewardship of the pub changed hands and the changes are many.

All the wooden floors now have a wonderful sheen to them, I think its down to elbow grease from Peter. A big TV (maybe not so good for some) appeared for the World Cup and stayed. Also new curtains have been hung- very nice. I suspect the old ones date back to before Arthur. New cushions in the lounge bar, very comfortable and a pretty colour. And just this week new wiring, with subtle low voltage lighting being installed behind the bar which, I noticed yesterday (15th December) highlighted the colour of the pineapple and grapefruit juices. Very pretty pink and yellow glows from the bottles! Have they made them radioactive? No, I=m only joking. It could get Ted worried. How many of you have noticed the spotlights on the Pub sign?

Well, ten months on, I think a = Well done= is due to both Tony and Barbara for making a good Pub as good if not better.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to everyone.

Jan the Ed.

A Sad Note

Dick Philbin passed away on the 12th of December 1998, shortly before his 69th birthday and was buried on the 15th in his home town in Ireland.

For many years he was a well known and well liked fixture of the Public Bar of the Wheatsheaf. His dulcet tones and poetic language echoed around the pub for all to hear and enjoy.

A colourful character and entertaining company.

He will be much missed.

Dick, (1995) in the Wheatsheaf public bar
